What We Do
This area guides a child to make sense of their physical world and community. Understanding the World area involves children making sense of things by observing people. They learn to discover technologies and explore everything
We are very lucky to live in such a wonderful village and we try to get out on walks to explore our local community as often as possible. As part of our ongoing theme, we learn about each season and the wonders that are in our local environment at different times of the year.
We explore and reflect on the weather daily at registration and use this information to help us inform appropriate choices on the clothing we would wear for outdoor play and suitable activities to engage in.
The children learn computer skills using educational games using a mouse and keyboard to navigate
Some ideas of activities you can do at home to support your child's development in this area include:
- Prepare food together for the family to share
- Hunt for bugs and butterflies in the garden
- Try fun, science experiments
- Make a family tree with family members in it
- Try foods from different cultures

The curriculum is ambitious and challenging for children. Staff know the children well and have a good grasp of how best to support them and build on their knowledge and skills.
